1 Overview
TripSplit is a group expense-splitting and trip-planning app published by Zentai Studio. This policy covers the Android app distributed under the package name com.zentai.tripsplit. It applies to information processed when you create an account, join or manage a group, record expenses, and use TripSplit's trip, budget, and settlement features.
In plain terms
- We never sell your personal information.
- TripSplit does not request your device location or contacts.
- Camera access is used only to scan a group's invite QR code.
- Expenses, balances, and trip content are only visible to members you add to a group.
2 Information we collect
2.1 Account information
When you sign up, we collect the email address and password you provide, or, if you continue with Google, your name, email address, and profile photo as shared by Google Sign-In.
2.2 Content you create
To provide the app's core functionality, TripSplit stores the content you and your group members enter: group names and members, expenses and how they're split, settlements, activity history, trip itineraries, budgets, packing lists, and trip documents.
2.3 Photos and files
If you attach a receipt image, set a profile photo, or upload a trip document, that file is uploaded from your device's camera or gallery and stored against your account or group.
2.4 Automatically collected information
Our advertising partner (Google AdMob) and infrastructure provider (Google Firebase) automatically collect device and app-diagnostic information — such as advertising identifiers, app version, device model, and crash/performance data — as described in Section 4.
3 How we use it
- To create and secure your account, and let you sign in across devices.
- To sync groups, expenses, settlements, and trip data between you and the members you share them with.
- To calculate balances, suggested settlements, and budget summaries.
- To send notifications about group activity, such as a new expense or a settlement request.
- To show ads that help keep TripSplit free, and to measure how the app is used so we can fix bugs and improve it.
4 Third-party services
TripSplit is built on Google Firebase and Google Mobile Ads. Each service processes a limited slice of data on our behalf, under its own privacy terms.
| Service | Used for | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication | Sign-in and account security | Email, hashed password, or Google account profile |
| Google Sign-In | One-tap sign-in | Name, email, profile photo |
| Cloud Firestore | Storing and syncing groups, expenses, trips | All content described in 2.2 |
| Firebase Storage | Hosting uploaded images and documents | Receipt photos, profile photos, trip documents |
| Cloud Functions | Server-side logic (invites, calculations) | Group and expense identifiers |
| Firebase Cloud Messaging | Push notifications | Device notification token |
| Firebase AI | AI-assisted features within the app | Content you submit to that feature |
| Google AdMob | Displaying banner, native, interstitial, and rewarded ads | Advertising ID, device data, ad interaction data |
These providers act as our data processors and are bound by Google's own privacy and data-processing terms — see Google's Privacy Policy.
5 App permissions
TripSplit requests two Android permissions. Both are optional — the app functions without them, with the related feature turned off.
Camera
Used only when you scan another member's QR code to join a group, or share your own. TripSplit does not access your camera at any other time and does not store camera frames.
Notifications
Used to alert you about group activity — a new expense, a settlement, or an invite. You can turn this off in your device's app settings at any time.
6 Storage & retention
Your account and group content are stored on Google Cloud infrastructure via Firebase, in the region configured for our project, for as long as your account remains active. Some app preferences (such as theme and currency) are also stored locally on your device. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and remove you from groups; content you contributed to a shared group (such as a recorded expense) may be retained within that group's history so other members' balances stay accurate.
8 Your choices
- Access and export. You can view your groups, expenses, and trip data at any time within the app.
- Delete your account. From Account settings, you can request deletion of your account and associated profile data.
- Manage permissions. Camera and notification permissions can be revoked at any time from your device's app settings.
- Ad personalization. You can reset or limit your advertising identifier, and adjust ad personalization, from your Android device's Google Settings > Ads.
9 Children's privacy
TripSplit is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us using the details below and we will remove it.
10 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as TripSplit's features change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
